The origins of Vredeburg Fort trace back to the year 1760 when it was first erected by Dutch colonial forces. Originally known as 'Rustenburg,' the fortress served as a bastion of Dutch authority, intended to safeguard the interests of the colonial power and maintain control over the Sultanate of Yogyakarta. However, beneath its facade of tranquility lay a complex web of political intrigue and power struggles, as the Dutch sought to assert their dominance over the indigenous populace.
